Fox Hunting Poem by Conley Murray

Fox Hunting

In hills of Kentucky in the old days,
fox hunting and fox races were men's favorite sport.

When it got dark at night,
men with their kerosene lanterns to give them light.

They would go to top of a high hill with their hunting dogs.

When they got to the top of the hill.
They would build a fire.

They would let their dogs loose and listen to them run,
it was a lot of fun.

They would set back and talk about the way,
they spent their day.

When the fox and dogs came close enough for them to hear,
they listen to their dogs, it was great music to their ears.

They could tell by voice of the dogs and the pace,
which dog was leading the race.

They would stay on the hill until late in the night.

When the race was over.

With their fox horns they called their dogs, so they would not roam.
Then they went back home.

When they got home and got some sleep.

They would get up and plan the way,
they would spend their day.

Those days have all gone away.

Now they use computers to plan the way,
they will spend their day.
