Forgive Please Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Forgive Please

Forgive please

None can feel
-they are they
-I am me…

They think how
-they can see,

None knows of Taliban
-hard life of an Afghan
-kindness and care for guests
-devoted, and it means; generous,

I was there in desert
-went through burning hell
-if still am alive, is of you, thank you
-that makes me search for you

Brother and friend
-look for you everywhere
-when hear of Mazar, or city nearby
-ask, plead, search and seek
-for their help to find you
-but so far, I have failed

The last one was today
-saw two men, labourers
-of Afghan origin
-one from Mazar and
-another, Pol-e-Khomri
-I gave them your details
-will meet them once again
-crossed are my fingers

When sit and speak of
-you and I, and our time
-and how you risked your life
-to take me all around in a car or truck
-to cities, villages, safe and sound,
-to visit places
-that were my interests
-like Rumi's birthplace
-and the bath that Rabia
-the great wild woman was murdered!

In times laugh; very much
-as do kids, crazy; or wolf's howl
-be honest and tell me: "Was I not? "

I wonder if you too
-recall it as fresh
-as do I

We entered the mosque when
-Taliban came in large
-one of them had been killed
-they were for prayer; led Imam
-I stood, hands closed in front
-on tummy, like Sunni
-you behind…

And later I noticed
-you had been too scared
-they could have taken me

You couldn't do a thing
-except for crying, risking life

Brother Homayun
-my dearest Rahim,
-simply greatest
-I miss you
-let me seek forgiveness
-not to have contacted

I tried
I tried
I tried

But have failed
In weakness, I did fail
Therefore, I feel ashamed

None can feel
-they are they
Now sitting all alone
-in my room, you in mind
-I let thoughts go wild
-I find me behind bars
-with Afghans of all kinds
-Tajik and Uzbek and Hazareh
-to Pashto and many of others
-I stand for them and give them help
-I teach them Farsi and, English,
-write letters for them and earn respect
-and the guards' dislike me
-for helping…

There I learn to hate the border
-imposed by Britain
-with the hands that helped them
-you and I are one but
-are forced to two flags
-different our anthems
-to me both are bullshit
-let us shout united
- "Break walls, gain oneness, "
-we have the same founders
-share the same literature
-history and cultures
- "The hell with dividers…"

What can know a Yankee, Gringo?
-of us, our way of life?
-or system, sacrifice

Best they do is silence…
-unaware they are of
-our love and our cultures
-rivers and springs, mulberries-for-free

Maximum to know is the show of media…
-which is wrong and sure dumb…

Brother Homayun
-my dearest Rahim,
-simply greatest
-I miss you
-let me seek forgiveness
-not to have contacted

I tried
I tried
I tried

But have failed
In weakness, I did fail
Therefore, I feel ashamed

After jail, I crossed the border
-white flag of fear on mountain
-voices killed, all silent
-all fear Taliban

I recall the nights when
-stable of donkey was place
-where I went and slept
-room was for Urdu and Arabic Speakers

I recall the boys, men
-all running to observe
-a game that I went too
-a man was to be killed
-by law of Taliban
-the lecture in Pashto took too long
-must have died the victim; before gun!

I recall the hands that
-amputated…
-were on walls;
-like planes on runway
-came and went the flies and the wasps
-touch-and-go

Brother Homayun
-my dearest Rahim,
-simply greatest
-I miss you
-let me seek forgiveness
-not to have contacted
I tried, and tried, and try
