'Forgive Me, Love' Poem by Rachel Harris

'Forgive Me, Love'

Forgive me, love
Call me slow
Laugh in your eyes
Pretend its insult
But let me explain
Why I forgot
I had thought
I was quite sure
I wrote them all
Every single love
Each piece of my heart
In my poetry
Until tonight
This night I realized
I’d forgotten you

Don’t reproach me
You must understand
How hard it is
That which I love most
You’re so much a part of me
How do I explain?
I love you so well
I know your thoughts
Your feelings are mine
We move as one, love
Even in the times
We don’t understand
We separate momentarily
But you’re always there
Love, you’re my heart

Know then
I only forgot you
Love, it wasn’t neglect
It was because
You’re so within me
I almost can’t separate
Me from you
You from me
It’s so hard to write
About something that’s inside
Not just a feeling
Emotion is too independent
It is separable
But with you, love
I can’t discern
Where do I end
And you begin?

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Glaedr the poet 28 June 2007

My Grandfather was in prison for 9 years. But all the same my grandmother kept her wedding ring on and now they are once again living together. I feel that is similar to the point this poem conveys. Always acknowledging a bond that was made even after mistakes made and time spent apart.
