For The Dead Walk Tonight Poem by Newo Enec

For The Dead Walk Tonight

He loads the gun,
Leans against the wall
Sweat shines in his full dark hair.
He twists around a corner
But sees nothing
He motions and two men follow
They move slowly, soundlessly
Through a haze of fear
For the dead walk tonight

She is backed into a corner
She screams as the blade kisses her cheek
He tells her in a Morse code of punches and shouts
He tells her to fight or they will die
She knows that he was never worth the effort
So she takes the blade
As his back is turned
And she initiates her end
For the dead walk tonight

They lock the doors
And board up windows
Trying to hide themselves
Trying to wait it all out
But one mistake
Allows the horde control
Only a child remains
She lies asleep upstairs, completely ignorant
And the undead will never find her
For when the sun rises
The curse is lifted
The innocent stand again
