~ Fool Me Once ~ Poem by Theodora (Theo) Onken

~ Fool Me Once ~

Rating: 5.0

The night beats irregularily
Abnormal rhythms have their way
Consequences pulsate
Like a drum
Hammering home the truth
The darkness clammers
For a voice
Half splintered
Shattered
Hiding from the near full moon
The stars its only alibi
Murmurs of possibility emerge
Acquaitance redefines itself
But reality seizes
Uneven tones reverberate
Echos of other nights
Spent with heartbreak
Pain announces once again
Emptiness overcomes
The heart attacks
In the deep emotions
Of todays hour
When all that is left
Is a lone heartbeat
