Finally (Scene) Poem by Sarah Jay

Finally (Scene)

She heard the rain fall heavily on the ground as she closed her eyes to forget. Forget about the rain, the dark, empty, foggy street she was standing in, the old buildings around her. The wind blew icily through her hair, she could hear it whistle through the narrow gaps of the dusty alleys between the house blocks.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw a shadow flit over the wall opposite of where she was standing, lit by the one bleak latern in the place. Although the shadow looked scary, she was neither scared nor alarmed. She just watched it dance in the light. It seemed to her like it was trying to get her attention.
The young woman lowered her head once again, she listened to the beat of her heart pumping blood through her body. The rain soaked her clothes, it ran over her body and face as she stepped out from the canopy she had been standing under.
It was a cold night and the stars were covered by thick, heavy clouds.
Aimless, she walked down the pavement when she came to a bridge. There was a strong stream beneath. She heard the water hit the pillars of the bridge. Splash. Splash.
Her thoughts ran circles and her tears joined the rain running over her face.
She was shocked when she found herself standing on the banister. She felt her heart beat faster one more time. She could not think, her body was acting and her mind was empty. When she jumped, she only had one last thought: ‘Finally.’
