Female Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Female

Female

I was born in village
Around me heritage
Of shovels, stables.

Saw love and taking care
Of trees and the farms
Of raising animals.

My school was truth
The doers on the routes
Carrying crops, goods
And the poor animals.

"Preserve life givers, "
So female was always
Cherished as the bearer.

That told me of value
Of mother and sister.

If ever sold, exchanged
Was for need; it was rare.

Sacrificed were the males
Goat and lamb, the rooster,
For skin, meat, feather
Male trees saw as jammed
Were pulled out and slammed.

Among the animals
A male walked too proud
Donkey was strong
Male ran our daily life.

Yet females had to mate
As were told and ordered
By owners' selection…

Now, here, in cities and among civilised
Full awake in tears I walk and look around
I remain mesmerised, still lost in right, wrong.
