Farewell To Skiathos Poem by Morgan Michaels

Farewell To Skiathos

Farewell to Skiathos
maybe forever
maybe forever
ehe ghia!

Here in the steerage
Skiathos receding
into the mists
of fancy and time

Arms of the village
opening gently
beckoning brightly
bidding goodbye

Maybe forever
there on the billow
hovering brightly
scattering fame.

Now we are weaving
paths from your glory
darkness descending,
mountainous forms

Pass to the starboard
pass to the leeward
soon in their splendor
blazon the stars.

When the moon rises
you will awaken
put on your brooches
of aquamarine

And donning your sandborn
sandals of cowry
leaving your mountains
dance on the sea.

Skiathos, oh, lovely
here from the steerage
maybe forever
vanishing now.

God, on the waters
you have cast islands
gifted with shadows
freshets and trees-

Maybe, oh, maybe
this is the fairest
Skiathos, oh, lovely
vanishing now

Maybe forever
farewell to Skiathos
maybe forever
vanishing now

Farewell to Skiathos
maybe forever
maybe forever
ehe ghia!

Superb. I saw you standing on the aft deck waving a melancholy goodbye.
