Fantasy Vs Reality Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Fantasy Vs Reality

Rating: 4.0

Running away and joining the circus
crosses my mind through out the day
I'll flag down a rainbow colored carousel
and ride away on a brightly painted fantasy
A prancing, dancing… musical steed

There is a magical lure of cotton candy and popcorn
with delightful smells… breath in the invigorating air…
the atmosphere sets my skin a glow…declaring freedom
Glittering lights outshine the doldrums of my daily routine
I'm carried to a land of endless rejoicing with great speed

Caught up in a rapture of laughter and frivolity
never having to think about cumbersome ills
On a weightless cloud… out of view from reality
enjoying a continuous adventure…slowing down
the fantasy is taking on a distinctly familiar quality

Traveling in circles listening to a monotonous song
The repetition invites a headache and creates doubts
The novelty begins to wobble as bearings in my brain
become unbalanced… the illusion is coming to a halt
As I step to the ground…my legs regained steadiness

Looking for the nearest exit…returning to a home
satisfying constant with the comfort of modest pleasures
At the end of a day... with its usual ups and downs…
A sense of security is achieved after problems are solved
The trance of illusion is replaced with a practical conclusion

I like how you wove a story of escaping to a fantasy place & then getting back to reality in the end. An enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing. Look for my poem that is similiar called 'Life is like a Carnival.' Ravensong
