Fall The Sky Poem by Raihan Ahmed

Fall The Sky

On this October sunset dreary,
walking down this clandestine road, the only one I’ve ever known,
my eyes blinded in your afterglow
Darling, did you even know?

You'll come in the most blazing amber,
Oh how can I feel the same? she said, she said.
The horizon turned a most beautiful ruby red,
forevermore.
Oh dear, how did it ever get this far?

Forgive me if I count the stars for you,
Cause it’s the only thing I’ll ever hold true.
I’ll burn these farewells, those paper hearts,
and sing the chorus to the sky.
For you.

Your voice rings through this silent dusk, echoing every line.
I keep walking on this road, guess it was never meant to be.
I’ll find exit nowhere
and move on.

I guess I’ll hum along with every song of teenage angst,
and this glass of candy vodka warming me through late nights.
Hoping tomorrow isn’t a Sunday morning.
I’ll strum these six strings till I find a way to say..

Forgive me if I count the stars for you,
Cause it’s the only thing I’ll ever hold true.
I’ll burn these farewells, those paper hearts,
and sing the chorus of my thoughts to the sky.
For you.

I could’ve been your midnight getaway,
but you were thousands of breaths away.
How did you feel with my dignity on my sleeve, my knees weaker
than my words?
And you smiled through it all, as my world came crumbling down.
I’ll strum these six strings till I find a way to say goodbye.

Forgive me if I count the stars for you,
Cause it’s the only thing I’ll ever hold true.
I’ll burn these farewells, those paper hearts,
and sing the chorus of my thoughts to the sky.
For you.
