Faith Poem by Robert R. Railey

Faith

Faith

Faith is not something that we can easily see, and yet we constantly see the results of faith in our daily lives
We also know that faith alone cannot guarantee us that everything in our lives is going to be perfect; then again, we also know that those of us who have faith must also live by the commandments
And by doing so, it appears as if those who have willfully surrendered their lives to God must inevitably find that their lives tend to flow more smoothly than those of us that depend solely upon self-will
Therefore, it's not a great leap of faith for the average person to become a believer; for without God in our lives we will most likely continue to bump our heads up against one brick wall after another
So when it's suggested that those of us without faith should practice living another way, we might just find that the end results are truly amazing
For instance, some of the more devout people I've met say that when they pray they receive what they call urges and inspirations
Then too, those same people who have practiced living with faith and prayer in their lives for long periods of time will almost invariably say that the positive results have become so common place that they tend to take them for granted
The use of meditation is certainly nothing new to mankind for as we all know many of the major religions have used this process of connecting with a power greater than ourselves for thousands of years; and as a result, the most notable religious leaders of the modern world have been known to advise their brethren to talk to, and then to listen to their own God
Prayer is simply the act of being willing to believe in a power greater than yourself; and accordingly, the ability to have faith in God is nothing more than arriving at a point where a person is willing to believe that there might just possibly be something out there in the world that could help them to lead a more comfortable life
These practices of prayer and meditation seem to work rather well for the people that use them daily; and therefore, the act of prayer has been used for years by the members of the numerous twelve-step programs around the world; and consequently, the end result is that millions of people have recovered from a variety of addictions
