Fable-2 Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Fable-2

Rating: 5.0

A frog along with her frog-lets
remained in the crevices
between the lining stones
of a shallow dug-well.
While scavenging outside,
the frog-lets spotted an
elephant foraging on the
branches near a motel.

Afraid of such a huge animal
they never saw before,
they returned to the well and
detailed about the jumbo
to their mother.
The mother frog had given them
the impression that she is
the most huge animal ever.
In her false ego she
bloated her body,
asked them about the size,
their negative answer compelled
to bloat her body further.

She bloated more and more to
such an extent that her body
ruptured and she was no more.
Can a frog ever assume the size
of a jumbo even if she inflates
her body in any way or another?

There are many people
in our midst like the mother frog
who want to exhibit their pride and riches.
Their honest income is less, but
they want to lead the life of excess.
This ego does not allow them to cut
their coat according to their cloth;
try to earn more and more
by unfair means, levelled corrupt and
finally incur wrath that ends in death.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Life is more than the show offs and pomp. Some people live in their false pride and die without realising that they did nothing great other than hurting self. Thoughtful poem.
