Exam Season Poem by Charles Orwell

Exam Season

The coughs echo through the room
Bouncing off the walls like excited gases
The creaks of wobbly tables and screeches
Of chairs across the hard wood floor annoying the room
The new pen, the classic pencil the new pencil case
It first use the zip is still stiff
The chewing of pens
The twisting and turning of pencils
The frantic scribbling
The big messy writing
The flicking of papers
The hands on heads
The shaking of hands
The sneezing
The biting of nails
The swigging of water
The blood flowing
The realisation
The panic
The clock ticking tic, tic, tic
A whole year leading to this
The hand begins to take the pain
But the mind let it take the strain
The defining moment sink or swim
This is it!
And in a moment it is over
Did the extra Weetabix help this morning?
Was all that effort in vain
