Everything For Now Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Everything For Now

The sun is always shining
though not for our fragile bodies
in the night we see an end
an end to another beginning.
The moon is constant as the stars
the blue and orange and grey skies that change and casually pass the time.
With winds that blow North and heat waves travel South,
where we carry on each hour like many before and many after.
Don't forget this life we're living is all we have,
racing towards the end is not winning my friend.
Step away from the track and wander down a different lane,
find a way to be free in your head and dream any dream you need to believe in.
Life is everything we have, for now,
don't forget to live it the way you want to.
Be crazy, or not,
Regret none, just have fun..
Steal that fast car good man, but
Don't forget to love.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Found out a guy I knew from high school is living his last days.... I can't say we're even friends now, but he used to make me laugh so much back then.. I hope he gets everything he desires while he can.

Reading your POET'S NOTES about this poem changed everything for me. I immediately forgot what I was going to write in response because the knowledge that the person addressed is dying made my first thoughts irrelevant. I read the poem again and a shadow passed over my reading. The title says so much. I thought it meant impatience but it really means necessity, because all that is left for him is NOW. How to cram a life of experience into the remaining time? And how does looming death alter desire? I don't know how you could write this poem but it's very good you did. Silence would simply mean things are already over. Your advice to WALK DOWN A DIFFERENT LANE and DON'T FORGET TO LOVE is the best.
