Everyone Needs A Cocoon Poem by Shalom Freedman

Everyone Needs A Cocoon

EVERYONE NEEDS A COCOON

Everyone needs a cocoon-
A small place in themselves in which to hide-
From the difficulties, the complaints, the arguments, the angers of this world –
A small place within themselves
In which they and their own dreams
Are master.
How else could we survive
Given the pains of all these others outside-ourselves also-
Who never let us rest?
