Eulogy For Mandela Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Eulogy For Mandela

Eulogy for Mandela

Mandela looks like the man
My brother pointed at and said:
“I’ll have him eat you if you are bad.”

I recall the Uncle Tom’s Cabin
The protagonist who was
His own antagonist

Shame
To you the Abrahamic believers
“Slavery is permitted.”

I am embarrassed
Embarrassed of what
I read, heard and remember

I never bought or sold
A toy, a black-slave
Feel proud to see them around

I admire opaque, Jaguar
The black eyes
The Shabdiz with Shiraz
