Erev Yom Kippur 5780 To Pray And Ask For Forgiveness Poem by Shalom Freedman

Erev Yom Kippur 5780 To Pray And Ask For Forgiveness

To pray and ask for forgiveness
To admit one's errors and wrongdoing
To show respect and obedience to God
To not question
And not cry out cries of why and how to God

On this day
To pray as if one wholly accepts
That God is the righteous ruler
Always right
And sin is human only

To simply not enter into one's ordinary mode of doubt and question
To be there wholly in the prayer
And to promise to be better if one can
In the coming year

To ask for forgiveness
Confess one's sins
Vow to be and do better
And to not simply hope
But believe God will forgive and understand
And allow one to live as best one can
In the coming year.
