Endless Battles Of Evermore Poem by Eric Paeplow

Endless Battles Of Evermore

Upon the hill, upon the glen
Where paths pass by, all those who fell
And now here lie, resting deep
Neath this grass, beneath my feet

Where once great battles raged
And left here in, this ground here laid
Torn and broken great heaps of flesh
Where dying dreams were all but spent

As though surging seas and skies of fire
Ripped their world and their desires
And sent them to another world
Where mountains topple, evermore

To leave behind their bodies bare
And free their souls from all despair
Of battles won and battles lost
Of glens and dales and rivers crossed

To here leave their swords and fly
Above the ground, into the sky
To endless lakes, before outspread
Of the cleansing waters, of the dead

Where bottomless chasms, caves and wood
Lie here before, all those who stood
For right and wrong, for good or evil
For in this place, where nothing matters

They will all take part, in an endless battle
As blows are struck and sabers rattle
And in the end, as they each will die
There will be a great feast, up in the sky

As the great halls of Valhalla ring
With cheers and toasts and goblets clink
To toast the victors, to toast the lost
To toast the battles and count the cost

And in Asgard they will forever stay
To help carry out, Lord Odin's play
Where great battles rage, upon the shore
In the endless battles, of evermore
