Elk Island Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Elk Island

Elk Island

Once a man
(in desert)
Kicked a vase of clay,
Emptied the water…

Then, thirsty
Clubbed hands
Poured sweat

He tried to collect
What remained
In mud, wet…

Wise observed!

Now, let us
Look, observe
What remains
Of Bison…

In Elk Park,
And in Banff,
And Jasper…

Take photos and frame;
Aren't they all the same?

Crazy broke vase
Crazy killed Bison

Within lines
With wisdom!

Find Big Bear
Poundmaker
Wanderer…

Then dig in alcohol
Uselessness and crimes
Take a while, then blame…
