Elephant On The Watchtower Poem by Noel Lorenz

Elephant On The Watchtower

A certain king had gone to war
With his men on horseback.
He had a shield the Queen had sent
And his sword had a nice bend.

Knights were marching
Leading the block.
The queen had a smile
The king was proud of.

Two days passed and
The third day came.
As the queen called for
The priest so came.

The priest was a lean man
With a sharp brain.
His instincts were sharper,
He predicted well.

The queen was anxious
The priest knew well.
He advised her to wait
And let him dwell.

The fifth day came
And queen came in,
The priest got angry
As his meditation failed.

He said he would leave,
The queen begged him.
He was still angry, then
The palace maids made him cream.

He calmed down and
Had milk with cream.
Looked up at the queen,
With a grin.

He stood up at the place
As queen looked on.
He put up his hand and
Made the call.

The king is in tension,
Lost many men.
He needs some luck
To hold his ground.

The queen got worried.
Asked what she could do.
The priest said, 'Nothing,
But only you could do.'

The queen looked querily
And asked again.
The priest said, 'my dear
Send for some men.'

Three soldiers came in,
The queen looked proud.
The priest laughed as
They weren't needed.

Okay my queen, listen up now
Only one way, the king can win now.
You need to send king's elephant
On the watchtower now.

The queen was dumbstruck
And exclaimed, 'What! '
Her eyes became like eggs,
Yet she checked her tears.

The queen said, 'how come
An elephant will ride the tower? '
The priest said, 'madam,
There's a watchtower like hill near the battlefield.'

The queen ordered the ministers,
The ministers obliged.
The elephant was brought
And was made ready for the ride.

The king was losing men
With the enemies nearing him;
The king was thinking
He'll never again see his queen.

The ministers of the kingdom
Neared the watchtower hill.
As the elephant reached the top
It saw the king.

The elephant called out
And the king was astonished,
The enemy thought king's army arrived.
They backed out fearing defeat.

The king saw it was his chance
So he ordered his men,
To outright kill all enemies
And capture the villain.

Then the villain was captured
And the king returned home.
The elephant was loved
And cared by the host.
