Election Rendition Poem by Noor Othman

Election Rendition

Rating: 5.0

Election time is confusing to me;
Every party claims they serve the majority;
Their manifesto promises some good dreams;
We'll give you this and that by all means.

This party says that party is bad;
That party says this party is bad;
If this and that party is bad;
Then which party is good and not bad? '

This candidate says his seat is hot;
That candidate says he gets a better shot;
If both candidates think they should get voted;
Which of these two men is a bigger clod?

My mind is made up long before the polling day;
The number of flags would not make me sway;
Many want to know to whom my vote goes to;
To these people I say, it may be to the Green or to the Blue!

Campaigning to me is a form of recreation;
To confuse the minds and belittle the opponents;
Will those things said on these campaign trails;
Be fulfilled and carried out once the YB is hailed?

To campaigners we say ‘don't tempt us with sweet promises;
Have you got the track records to prove your worthiness?
This 12th National Election see strange candidacy;
Many are young ones and one lonely elderly lady!

This is a National Election rendition;
I wrote this up in one fun moment;
To those who are disturbed by my comments;
Please cheer up, this is just for amusement!

This poem was written a day before the 12th National election in 2008 where the streets of Kota Bharu was swarmed with colourful blue and green party flags
