Efflorescence: My Paternal Grandmother Poem by Ryan John Payne

Efflorescence: My Paternal Grandmother

When forlorn flow'rs your green thumb'd find,
Their blossoms would forever bind
Memories and love of which we share-
Your lovingkindness ne'er once threadbare.
Nodding flowers genuflect in the wind
And garden crops soon gathered in
Expressed that love you'd harvest well.
It never was too hard to tell
You preferred your world in flowery hues...
That's what I know when I think of you.
God nurtured you just like garden flowers;
Heaven still sends those needful showers.
The Lord knew best when He called you Home;
He stopped your lifelong metronome.
Yet flow'ry salutations in efflorescence
Find harmonious growth so effervescent-
You loved me first; I loved you back.
Sweet pangs of love have left their track.
Each marigold, chrysanthemum, each daisied hue
Makes 'grandmother' a blissful word because of you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My paternal grandmother passed away in 2010. She was two months shy of her 92nd birthday. She loved to garden, and her vegetable garden as well as her flower garden reflected her gift for gardening. I always admired this about her, and I wanted to put it into verse.
