Easy Now Poem by Whit Leyenberger

Easy Now

Love in the early afternoon
Lazy and gentle intimacy
as clear light trickles through cotton curtains.
Quiet and slow laughter of bodies with bodies.
And afterward,
lying like Greek statues on clean white sheets
I think, how can this be lost?
These times of enveloping serenity,
of calm thoughts and warm linens
and tall glasses of cool water held with two hands
Why can’t I carry them with me? What makes them
so compassionately unmomentous?
The fleeting wisdom of lightness
My happiness is composed of drifting cloud formations
passing by like smiling seraphim
with the ease of California wind chimes
