For C Poem by Whit Leyenberger

For C

When I look at you I have to laugh
It just all seems so ridiculous
So unplausable that we’re here
It’s that glowing impossibility
You covet and tuck away
Next to the super powers and
Beneath buried treasure, knowing
It will never see the light of day

But here you are:
Your invincible innocence, slaying
Despites. Those tiny flitting fears
Spinning you in a delightful spectacle,
Unquenchable lightness offsetting
The simmering lines of your body
And the versed grip of your lips
You’re so well composed

Having that which I can only
Aspire to deserve here with me
Looking at me with ambitious eyes
It’s far too much to be taken seriously
Too ominous to be encompassing
Sweet confusion, my elating itch
Please dear, show some modesty
You’re supposed to be a grail

I hope you understand you are just
Destroying my curve, I may never
Again achieve this altitude but the
Bar is set, there is no satisfaction
In your loan of tenderness
No rest for the sleepwalking
No air for those holding their breath
I guess I’m just too lucky
