Dream Tree Poem by Khloe Chace

Dream Tree

I am not a hippie, save the earth girl
But that does not mean I don't miss my childhood.
My neighbors and I, we fixed up that place.
That 'dream tree' willow was my second home.
We worked like ants to get that place cleaned out.
But then some government organization,
Decided they wanted to buy my place.
No one had lived there in years, so it was mine.

I heard, from my snoopy parents that,
The government is going to make houses.
They will cut down our hard work and replace it.
I wonder if they know what that feels like.
To have their neighbor bonding place destroyed.
Actually have something to feel adventure.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was a sonnet for my project. We had this tree(icon of my childhood, seriously) and we would work on it soooo hard all the time. Then they cut it down. Now when I see a machine like that, I scowl

'Donesnt normally look like this' isnt supposed to be there...i dont know what happened...well, this is a sonnet, the first one i tried. and yes, i have been apart of the dream tree since about 2nd grade. actually, they havent removed it yet, but it has grown old scary, not magical anymore. i just remember that one summer. moriah, nick, nolan, and i cleaned it out, getting cuts and bruises pulling branches out of an area. we had a longe place that had a great view of the stars, the thorn tunnel, which actually looked like a hallway of thorns, and the old dream tree. im sure going to miss that place

The tragedy of many adults is they have forgotten the wonder, belief and faith of childhood possibilities. Adult reality should also blend realism, faith, hope and acceptance when necessary, and the will to strive to make a better world.
