Dream (A Tribute To My Late Mum) Poem by TANIMONURE ADEWALE

Dream (A Tribute To My Late Mum)

I have seen death severally
But I never knew I will see death
Severe kill my soul after God.
I have read much about death.
How am I to know death was reading us
Feeding us false dreams of wellness
Making murderous mockery of mum
Hmmmn. I thought death could be killed
Chai! ! ! Death in thrill of pain cruel killed
And gloat glee my heart. Bad. Mad. Sad.
Oh gosh! ! !
Dreams fell in love with rich Reality
But to woo him is a mountain of task
Dreams was poor, Reality was rich
How will the two tune together as one?
Dreams began the toils in sweats of soils
And tasking, tiring times of thousands more
Day and night with her entire might
In scores of jeers and sneering cheers
A lone trudging in quiet of heart and acts
All questions, queries, cries and asks
Unto the biblical hills she faced her eyes
Dreams must marry Reality great and grand
For her six seeds in breeds of successes
To savour sweetly in stretch length of life
Alas! How were we to know
In a predetermined silence so
Of the Almighty's permission to
Death to teach a strong lesson for show?
Now Dreams is dead. Reality stands alone
Dreams cannot marry him; its a painful opposite goal
Death took Dream leaving Reality so
Sad and bad lovestruck being. Alas! Its an "oh no"
Coz he's ready to breed the seeds of Dreams
He's ready to marry her in great glow.
Maami,
The riddle of God is answered by none.
No match for reasoning, guess work is nought.
So, my siblings and I leave you to his riddle
If he wants to unravel, we will be so grateful
If not, we offer our thanksgivings still, albeit so painful.
