Dr. Love Poem by Rachel Martin

Dr. Love

A man goes to the doctor and is everything but feeling good. After waiting 1 hour in the waiting room he is finally called into the doctor's office. This man's face is pale white, weird because he is not Caucasian, his arms have been slashed over 20 times, and every word to him just seems like a put down. After a very thorough examination the doctor comes up with a conclusion of what is wrong with this man.
The doctor says 'Now look at me this is very important! ' So as the troubled man struggles to lift up his head the doctor starts anyway.
He says 'Son. . .You have a sickness of the heart. Now don't go all crazy just let me finish! The sickness you have is called L-O-V-E. Do you understand? , ' The man nods his head. The doctor goes on saying, 'Good. I'm going to ask you a couple of question I want you to answer truthfully. Okay? , ' The man says 'Yes.' very bluntly with no emotion. 'Having you been feeling any tenderness of the heart, or more rather passion/affection towards someone? ' A tear starts to form in the corner of the man's right eye. 'Yes I have' he says. 'Is there something that you have put all of your devotion and commitment in? ' Another tears forms in the corner of the man's left eye. Studering he says 'Y...Ye...Yes I have.' 'Mhmm, 'says the doctor while noting down his patient's reactions to the asked questions, 'What about cheating? Has someone been lying to you? Not being loyal or very deceitful in something you two once had? ' The man can't take enough he screams 'YES! YES! IT'S ALL TRUE. EVERYTHING YOU SAID...., ' in a lower toned voice he says, 'Yes...Yes I have. She did this to me doctor! ' In return the doctor replies with 'Well I think you are at the final stage of this sickness. As you may have already come to the conclusion that final outcome of this sickness is Heartbreak.' The man repeats in a shocked voice 'Heartbreak. Heartbreak. Heartbreak? Wha...What can I do? Is there a cure? ' The doctor smiles and says 'Of course there is always a cure to heartbreak, ' the doctor gives the man a tissue and continues, 'Do you believe in God? ' While biting his lip the man says 'Of course I do! ' In a very stern voice the doctor says 'Sir I've been writing down all of your actions and your answer to my questions. Not just bluntly you answer but how you've said them. Through out this whole hour in my office you have not once risen your head. You keep looking down. Why is that? ' Shocked about what he hears the man lifts his head and reveals his blood shot eyes to the doctor and says 'Because I am ashamed. My one shot at true love and I have ruined it. I will never get her back, and I feel that God is punishing me with all this stress and agony.' The doctor says 'No! God has not punished you but is only showing you. Showing you how to love, what heartbreak feels like, and how to come out of the pain. So you can once again live in this world with everyone else and start a new relationship.' 'But why me? ' the man says with a cold feeling in his chest. 'To make you stronger. So next time when your heart gets broken you know how to deal with the pain. Tell me now why did you come to my office today? ' The man can't come up with an answer and says nothing. 'Is it because you have no one else? She cornered you and took it all away? You came hear for advice didn't you? Not for any medical reason.' 'But my heart doc! It hurts.' 'You want to know how to heal it? , ' the doctor says with a smirk. 'Yes! More than anything! ' 'This Sunday come to church with me and I promise you once you've done that all your troubles will have gone away., ' saying what he has to say the doctor leaves the man his card and walks out of his office.
