Do Penguins Drown? Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Do Penguins Drown?

Do penguins drown?

Written, rolled and corked in
With bottle tightly sealed
Went away to destine
For unknown, much hoping.

Now stopped by cliffs
A canvas of corals; a painting abstract…
Washed ashore near me
Sit planks, junks, cartons,
Plastics, Jerry-cans.

Abandoned a piece of a net of a fisherman
Tortoises are dead and entrapped,
They stink when we are stagnant,
That we are, unless kissed by the waves…

All the minds around me
Seem like dots, needles' tips
And so are their ears and the eyes!
In times I, feel the choke by the foams
That hit me against rocks; splash…

With each ouch I recall the lands, waves
And vessels I crossed
Different in shape, size, large, small.

From birth to today I went to and stayed
In castles, palaces and the huts
In cities, villages, and the farms;
Each having cultural stories, history!
Formed, unformed in poems
And or books in covers,
Or shows, films…

Now stuck, entangled
In web of progress
Emptied of power lack knowledge
Feel the junks around me…
I sigh and keep thinking…
'Will Jeanie in bottle be released? '
Hope is low, I wonder!
