Dignity Poem by Shruti Goswami

Dignity

Freedom to life,
And a right to dignified living,
Are but fundamental.
Why then do some think,
That violating such rights;
Is a freedom of expression?
The warriors, nay, not the soldiers I speak of;
The unsung heroines of daily life;
Women, the fairer sex;
Violated at will, daily,
Their unwillingness, as if never existed.
When the muscles in a civilized society,
Take precedence over the brains;
Women are worshipped in daylight;
And in the dark, fettered in chains.
Justice, when sought, is seldom
Seasoned with mercy for the caregivers of life.
It dies many silent deaths, in the court rooms,
Outside it, and even before it reaches
The altar of justice.
And as the vessel of life,
Fill up with crime, cries and laments,
Duty calls, for those who care, live, love and let live,
To fight for what is right
To honour the dignity, of the salt of earth,
Called Womankind.
