Deja Vu Poem by Taylor Fong

Deja Vu

Rating: 2.5

Why were you there?
Why did I have to see you?
Seeing you again was like reliving a nightmare.
You enter the room…
My heart stops.
My stomach drops.
My hands shake.
My heart aches.
I flash back to that night.
The night you took everything away from me.
The night my love for you turned to hatred and fear.
The night you stole my virginity with rape.
The night I became scarred emotionally and mentally.
The night that I see in my nightmares.
The night when the man who always made me smile,
Turned into the monster that, at the thought of, makes me shudder.
I snap back to reality and realize.
My worst fear happened.
I saw you again.
A ghost from my past. A monster in my nightmares.
You act as if nothing were ever wrong.
I act as if I’m happy to see you,
So as not to make a scene,
Not to look a fool.
When behind this smile I show,
My heart is pounding; I hear it in my ears.
My eyes are filled with fear; I pray you don’t come near.
My thoughts flash back constantly to that night.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
And all I hope for
Is to make it through to tomorrow.
