Defiance Poem by Maheshwer Peri

Defiance

All they wanted were people pliant
Any of those speaking seen defiant

They wanted of me to play dead
When amongst thorns they continue to tread

Punishment started of all those defiant
Isolated, ostracised, dealt with strident

It was dark and lonely till the birds joined
Their chirping was deemed non-compliant

And then the gushing trees also joined
Their movement to gusty winds seen defiant

The sun peeped out, glowing and radiant
It joined the band of all those defiant

Now it is a crowd of those defiant
A chorus of those forced to be silent

It is no longer lonely at this altitude
With birds, trees, sun and solitude

They had punished me into this wilderness
I am free and happier in this loneliness.
