Deception Was Her Name Poem by Shelley Williams

Deception Was Her Name

There was an extra seat
that was taken by my friend.
Her words about another
I didn't bother to defend.

The conversation was hot
with words that could burn.
I just nodded in response
and waited for my turn.

It really made me wonder
what she said about me.
The days when I wasn't there
to see how she could be.

Deception sat across from us
with dishonest words to say,
She put down another friend
and I didn't want to stay.

I watched her body language
and decided what was true.
She obviously betrayed others
and I wondered if they knew.

I left my place at the table
and I didn't dare look back.
She had a deceptive smile
that was a part of her attack.

Deception was her name
and I noticed right away.
A back stabber can't be trusted
as a best friend anyway.
