Death Of An Illusion Poem by Nick Downer

Death Of An Illusion

I saw you again
not like I had in a long time,
you looked the same but now,
you are just the empty shell
of what lives in my mind.
The death of an illusion,
but still the feelings stay
doesn't matter that you're gone,
I'm still going to feel this way.

You're no longer real,
but the ghost of you still lives here
so get out of my head,
I want your memory dead
except what's gone is gone
but it still lives here.

Some say nothing's sadder
than the death of an illusion
others scowl and say,
this is the life that I'm choosing
but I know it's not true,
they must be mistaken
except reality is
this is the grave that i'm making
so just cover me up
and bury me alive
because if this is what life is
then I don't want to survive.

Cuz you're no longer real
but the ghost of you
it still lives here
so get outta my head
I want your memory dead,
except what's gone is gone
but it still lives here.
