Death Poem by John Griffiths

Death

The time is now before me,
When the body falls away,
And my spirit gain’s its freedom,
From the life it had to pay.

My friends will start appearing,
To beckon me back home,
For, my learning is now over,
And no longer need I roam.

Lying calmly on the bed,
I begin to see the light,
As it gathers all around me,
My freed spirit takes to flight.

The tunnel is now before me,
It is filled with so much love,
From the people all around me,
And the wisdom from above.

I turned and looked behind me,
At the body on the bed.
For I know that I am living,
And the empty shell is dead.

I’m now free from all confinements,
That has held me back with tears,
And the love that once was given,
Will continue through the years.
