Daughters Poem by Christina Simmons

Daughters

Rating: 5.0

30th October 1998

I am lucky to have had three girls,
I am mindful of the moments they
Made me laugh, reminding me how humorous I was

Holding them close to me
Playfully touching...hugging,
Until I could see the joy in their eyes

Fun...games all round
Clowning about pretending to be a fool
They were my little companions,

My best chums I was lucky...
I yearn for them,
Missing the comforts
They brought to my life

Now I reminisce...
What my daughters feel
For me

Now that they're gone - happiness gone
from my days; no longer do I read bedtime stories
Telling...talking fairytales

Discussing folklores together
Viewing everything nice,
What little girls like

What does it mean for them
Not to share my world anymore?
I remember when we had each other.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was inspired when I had to live without my three daughters. After a so called man, I loved at the time, a childhood sweetheart, I felt I couldn't live without, father to two of them. He had me completely fooled believing he also cared for me. But he really wanted the girls for his own selfish needs. To hurt me, and to take away the people who brought joy to my world.
