Dare I? Poem by Paul WilsonSuffield

Dare I?

I cannot stand eye to eye and explain the way I feel
My heart would pump my legs would shake my nerves they would kill.
The words would tumble from my mouth in an order of their own
My throat will vibrate my voice would change and spew out a new tone.
People do it every day they tell you how they feel
Is it right is it true are they being real?
Words like love and words like care in are thrown about all day
But the meaning of the words is very hard to say.
Words when spoken come from the mouth the sounds you understand
But when coming from the heart the meaning slaps you like a hand.
Do I stay loyal to my heart and speak only to the one?
Or do I tell each person I meet what by joining could be done?
The need to be not alone is one we all share
But to be with the one you love is to know that someone cares.
How can you speak to the one you love and tell them how you feel?
Will I ever pluck up the nerve to show my feelings are real?
A question for those who suffer with nerves a task that must be done
To have a love to be in love two hearts to be as one.
