Dancing On My Grave Poem by John Burns

Dancing On My Grave

Dancing On My Grave

Shine up those dancin’ shoes
The old man’s passed away
Too long you waited for the chance
To dance the night away.

A midnight visit to the plot
Wherein he lays today
Gives you the chance to say goodbye
In the good old fashioned way, so

Shine up those dancin’ shoes
The old man’s passed away
Too long you waited for the chance
To dance the night away.

T’aint his money that you want
He spent it anyway
A chance you need for steppin’ out
To blow those blues away, so

Shine up those dancin’ shoes
The old man’s passed away
Too long you waited for the chance
To dance the night away.

The old man whispered
‘fore he passed
She’s going to get the chance at last
I need to help her, make it fast, so

Bring your family, bring your friends
Bring all to celebrate
The final passing of a life
For which they couldn’t wait so

Shine up those dancin’ shoes
The old man’s passed away
Too long you waited for the chance
To dance the night away.
