Crystalline Poem by Katherine Delheart

Crystalline

Rating: 4.3

If I give you this heart
Coated with glimmering crystal,
Will you finally deem it a treasure?
Will you let it stand, on display,
At the same level which she stands?

I'll even give you my freedom
To mould it and sculpt it as you see fit.
Maybe if it looks pretty enough,
You'll proudly show it off to your friends.
Or maybe you'll keep it all to yourself
For fear of someone stealing it away.

Or will you keep it locked behind a glass casing
Lest it cause a mess when it shatters?

What can you see
Reflected from my glistening eyes?
Only hopeful glances and
Lingering smiles will leave this cage-
Until you let me go.
But even so, this heavy heart of mine
Will only sink beneath turbulent waves
Which ebb and flow along the soft sands
That you kiss her on.

I'll let the gazes you give her
Bounce off this solidified heart
As I close my eyes, because
What I cannot see cannot hurt me.
All I can do is watch you go
And try to embed those words not
Meant for me in every fibre of my being.

For fear of becoming worthless in your eyes,
I'll let you keep me forever,
Become all that you want and wish me to be.
Maybe then you will finally give me a smile-
Even if it is hardened like crystal.

And in the middle of the night,
When no one else is awake,
You will come to polish my faceted surface
And idly wonder:
Since when was it as dull as murky waters?

You see, my dear,
Crystals reflect all that is given to them.

Indeed one's love feeds and gets nourishment from the other. Love is a spiritual experience that affects one profoundly. It's a voyage of pure bliss wherever it is carefully nurtured at all times by both couples. A well articulated piece of poetry, nicely penned with insight. Thanks for sharing Katherine.
