Counting Numbered Days Poem by Not Long Left

Counting Numbered Days

Rating: 5.0

Four hundred thousand drops of rain
have fallen since I last blinked.
Seven clouds stretching from one town
to the other have eaten each other.
One magpie has spent the morning
bathing its wings in the house next
doors gutter, fourteen leaves have
fallen from the apple tree that hangs
over the wall like a tired drunk.
six times now has the red light on the
kettle flickered, once more than
clanging pipes inside the wall.
Not once has the phone chirped its
usual tune, not once has the sickness
inside my insides subsided.
I am counting numbered days
wanting just the one.

That ache - how well you describe it, Vincent, in all its torturous endlessness.
