Cosmopolitan Magazine Poem by Paula Glynn

Cosmopolitan Magazine

1970

A magazine designed by top women
1972 the first issue in Britain
To be released to the public
And to be enjoyed by the public
As they excitedly pull out
That first colourful issue from the newsstand
Wondering what mysterious entertainment
Is waiting for them
With the turning of each modern page
The bright cover adding allure
With its gorgeous and famous model
Only known in fantasy
Women taking the fabulous fashion
And unique and new makeup advice

For the 1960's have ended
The 1970's a fresh start
For women all over the globe
Masterful models and fantastic fashion
Coming into play
And men and women do sway
To night-time ballroom music
With those dancing shoes on
Cosmopolitan magazine does advertise
Glitter glamour all the rage

For women are thought to be
Beautiful and glamorous
They are thought to
Come out of their shell
With every turning
Of the Cosmopolitan magazine page
Imagining themselves
Dancing in the spotlight on the stage
Like all those female performers
Who have their face immortalized
On the silver screen
Their performances never to age

They to dance and sing perfectly in tune
And star in never monotonous motion pictures
With their show stopping lipstick
And their stylish and colourful
Delightful dresses and sexy skirts
That highlight how a woman should look

The younger generation of women
Greatly influenced in this regard
By Cosmopolitan magazine
A vast influence indeed
And a magazine to carry on
Showing women of the world
How it's done and how it should be done
In terms of both fashion and home life.

1980

A magazine in another decade
1980 to see Cosmopolitan
Greet a new generation
Of young women:
Even still catching the attention
Of older women
But loyal followers continue:
Even though the 1970's gone

For Helen Gurley Brown arrives
Becoming editor in chief in 1965
In American Cosmo
A woman the pioneer of advertising
And female sexuality
Women's rights in society
In relationships and friendships
With men, Helen Gurley Brown to believe
Every woman having the right
To live and enjoy the night

Cosmopolitan magazine therefore
To turn into a vehicle of social change
Whilst selling makeup and clothes
Where women's changed attitude shows
And shows other women
The influence of Cosmopolitan
Articles racy and exciting
Allowing the modern woman
Rights and desires in the bedroom
Never being labelled a tart
For a woman does celebrate her heart.

2000 onwards

A magazine in the modern era
Cosmopolitan magazine changing
In a new century
Technology moving forward
Articles including social media
Where smart phones
And other technology
Show the new century of women
How it's done and done right
And now women move forward

Not just with technology
But with articles about love,
Sex, fashion, politics, movies
Books, music, money, career
Even astrology, star signs
Entertaining readers
With its priceless predictions
About love and life

There being 64 worldwide editions
Of this magazine, making it
The most famous magazine on the planet
35 languages the vast array of appeal
For the majority of women
And reading a section
Called "Ask Him Anything"
Has a lot of appeal for heterosexual women
For Cosmopolitan isn't for butch females
But is a magazine worth every pound spent
At the newsstand and is worth a mountain of gold
For in the heart of the world
Cosmopolitan magazine has taken a firm hold.
