Cold Case

Amidst the sky-scraping stacks of files
In the sinuous crossroads of vacuous miles
A ghastly murder mystery now a cold case
An empty box yearning for an elusive face
She a lass from the comforts of suburbia
Ensnared and entrapped within conjugal inertia
He was a tenacious soldier a man on a mission
A prowling sniper with an eagle eye vision
Yet their marriage was like the tide crashing to the rocks
Crashing against destiny with no tranquil docks
Then one night in the passion of the moment
Wrath rose like lava up a volcano shaft latent
As the gun barrel locked, torrents of tears were born
A sanctified life ruptured like a newspaper torn
As her soul resurrected from the vermillion pool
He froze like an icicle, the mind entangled in a spool
He eloped like a mustang to the great wide open
To the open arms of the forgiving Pacific ocean
Proverbs say that the Pacific has no memory
Yet the heart is an echoing vault a ruthless infirmary
As on a Mexican beach was a man haunted by his wife
As nightmares stormed like hurricanes to his tumultuous life
Then one merciless night in the sodden dark
As the ghosts trumpeted for the earlobes to hark
He waded to the beach to embrace Poseidon’s pardon
Yet underneath the placidity was Lucifer the death warden
As his life was wrenched by the gravity of Hades
A tormented existence succumbed to Lucifer’s shades
Yet amidst the sacrifice, there lies in a file, a chilling vacant space
To embellish with a name and the warmth of a face

Of this worlds theatre in which we stay,
My love like the spectator ydly sits
Beholding me that all the pageants play,
Disguysing diversly my troubled wits.
