Coffee

This poem is not about temptation. It's about the state anyone can be in when they're not sober nor completely drunk. In between.

Didn't think you'd be the key
But your smoke sways struggling to purify me
It's always been either you or candy
I chose candy
Thought it was the easy way to be

But now my mind is spinning and spinning
Like the spoon that mixes your ingredients, so sweet
Spinning and spinning
I'm an empty seed
By all means

You're warm, I know
I'd like to feel that flow
But I can't reach yet
I've got plenty to owe
And I wouldn't be thinking right now
If candy was in my mouth
Wouldn't be shaking my pen up and down
My body would be here, but my head would be flying south

And for once, I chose to go north
Decided to keep an oath
But here's to say
I'm just acting in another play
Kind of hard to understand
So let me give you a hand

You see
This isn't sobriety
True, it's coffee
But it could just as well be
Coffee flavored candy
And you'd think
After all of the coffee sweetness
I'd be awake and long over my dizziness
And you'd think
After all of the bumps and bruises along the way
I wouldn't choose candy for another day
My oh my
What a big mistake
My oh my
I might not even be awake

Coffee or not
It doesn't matter that much
I'm already high
I'm already drunk

And I take another sip
Coffee, coffee, coffee
Joining me on my next trip
Candy, candy, candy
Soothing me until I lose the grip
Fly freely
Spacing out into the world of the imaginary
Away and away
Far beyond reality

So coffee or candy
It's all the same
And I ain't ashamed

I will look for a ring of fire
Jump through it, maybe burn a little
Fill my need, fulfill that desire
Scratch your head and solve my riddle

Coffee flavored candy
A rush of insanity
Very awake, not sober though
Anything to keep me from being low
Coffee or candy
It's all the same
All leading to a craze
Granting me strength to sustain

Coffee flavored candy
Never thought you'd be the key...

Not you as some pale poetling, seated at a desk, lisping cadenzas
