Chewing Gum. Poem by Lynn El Amine

Chewing Gum.

Molded into different shapes
Constantly bitten by your bittersweet breath
Intoxicated

I simply sway on that red carpet of yours
While you enjoy my fading taste
Surrendering myself over and over to you
Bite after bite
Chew after chew

I'm your chewing gum
The kitty's puppet
Your entertainment
My pain
Your entertainment
Over and over again

Six hours
Spent near your throat
Too bad my dagger's not with me
Lucky you
Holding the remote
Skipping my channel

Amazing how you never give up
I'm a chewing gum
In your mouth
All the time
Red, green, and blue
You've got all of these flavors to choose
So why choose white?

Going around the corner
U-turn
Out of the shades
And into a new day

Church bells
Don't they just ring in your ears?
I'm hidden in your closet of silver
Curled up in your crimson blanket
I can hear their music
And hum to their tune
Could it be our wedding night?

Forget about it, it doesn't matter
You went through your day
With the inner satisfaction
Chewing come brings

You forgot
Forgot about our bond
But it's okay
I forgot to book for our honeymoon
Funny, don't you think?
Guess that makes us one

But, Oh Wait
Another scar
Another hole in my skin
Your sharpened knives
Sparkle
Cutting right through me
Old Bruised
Old and abused
Chewing Gum

I look at the glass
The mirror on the wall
Our portrait
We have the same face
Same hair
Same eyes
Shocked by the reflection
I've also got gum in my mouth…
