Christmas. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Christmas.

Away from the trappings of men
Lays the honest reason for Christmas
So I won't preach at you then
About the various reasons for trespass
Against rights and wrongs
Of you my lost children and friends
For really no one belongs
To set rules and lost tokens
Just dusty memories that take you back
To childhood times and visions
When joy and hope came in a sack
Thrown over Santa's back on his mission
To but stir up hope and love
And bring a child to bursting
Whilst simply scanning the sky above
For that feeling you still thirst for
That feeling deep inside the child you were
For decades you've been missing
Bewilderment, surprise, strong and wild
Those recurring dreams
That your mind keeps kissing.
