Changing Winds Poem by Cheré Mason

Changing Winds

The sun shines down heating her skin
The wind is still, today she’ll win
She lies on her tummy watching the world
This place is her oyster and she sees her pearl
She gently gets down from her high top seat
She’s hungry now and smells fresh meat
Slowly through the grass she goes
She’s so near but they don’t know
Slowly she approaches with utmost care
Silent as a mouse, no noises to scare
There it is in front of her now
She licks her lips but resists to growl
One more step and she’ll be in range
One more step before lives change
She readies herself preparing for the kill
A hunter she is with the greatest of skill
She jumps up in a silent motion
Sending them running in a dust of commotion
But it’s too late for the chosen one
The winds were down, today she won
