Caterpillarskin Poem by Mark Nichols

Caterpillarskin

When you're afraid or indecisive
Sweat is dry and salty on your brow
Sometimes you just have to lay low
Give it up, release the fear
It's that feeling on you
When nothing seems at all clear
It's heavy, dirty, worn
Patched up like suit on clown
Like the skin on a weary caterpillar
Gotta put them old clothes down
Like the skin suit on a caterpillar
Gotta take it off
And leave it on the ground

When you're huddled
Deep within yourself
When your mind is seized
And dreams won't even grace you
When will the end come?
Nobody can say
Like caterpillarskin
Gotta put them old those clothes down
Like the skin on a caterpillar
Gotta take it all off
And leave it on the ground
