Cashew Is More Than A Nut

Rating: 5.0

Cashew is more than a nut,
I was surprised to find
when I got to Brazil.
It's enough to blow your mind.

Cashew is a fruit, as well, you see
when it's growing there upon the tree,
and here's the part that's really swell:
from the fruit they make a juice as well!

The picture shows the cashew fruits, each with one nut attached. The nuts must be cooked before they can be eaten, I was told.

Part 5. The kernels are separated from the shell by splitting it open with knife and used in "curries".

The shelled kernels can be consumed raw or fried again and salted for consumption.

Part 3. While the fruit is edible raw, as juice and as feni, the nut has to be shelled. The shell of the nut contains highly toxic and inflammable oil, which can burn the skin. So it is fried to remove the oil, before shelling.

Part 2. Lovely poem. Rhythm and rhyme are exquisite.

Hi Kim, I thought that you wrote the poem in Goa. But, then the most important item was missing: "FENI" the official drink of Goa😃. Prepared from the cashew fruit. Please do go over to Goa and taste it. I fear you won't go back home.
