Call My Bluff Poem by Sai Killam

Call My Bluff

Life dealt me a bad hand,
My ace of hearts came broken,
My full house ain’t so full,
I don’t live life on straight and narrow,
I just live my life alone.

I ain’t got a girl to hold me,
No one to be the other half of this pair,
My highest cards a low one,
And I’ve nothing to my name.

Hoping you won’t call my bluff,
Catch me caught up in this lie,
With tricks up both my sleeves,
I’ll make you think I’ve got the life.

Cut me in half,
You’ll find a joker on the inside,
Shuffle my bad parts with the good ones,
You’ll deal a loser every time.

Feels like I got dealt the short end of the stick,
In a room full of aces,
Even the suicidal king,
Has more to live for than I.

Hoping you won’t call my bluff,
Catch me caught up in this lie,
With tricks up both my sleeves,
I’ll make you think I’ve got the life.

Final hand, ante up,
Not a coin to my name,
Put my life on the line,
I’m all in.

Don’t have to be a gambler,
To know I’m playing with my life,
Going all on in a bluff,
With a broken poker face.

Hoping you won’t call my bluff,
Catch me caught up in this lie,
With tricks up both my sleeves,
I’ll make you think I’ve got the life.

Hoping you won’t call my bluff,
Catch me caught up in this lie,
With tricks up both my sleeves,
I’ll make you think I’ve got the life.

I love the imagery of the hand of cards. Very clever indeed. I wondered as I read it, whether it would also serve as powerful lyrics to a song - perhaps that idea came through your use of repetition?
