Mental Ward Poem by Sai Killam

Mental Ward

Rating: 5.0

Every time I bleed it’s a cry for help, not an insanity plea,
But you think differently, think I need a hospital to treat me,
So you sent me here and locked me in the psych ward,
For finding a way to deal with my pain, I guess this is my reward.

Ghosts walk these halls, and every one has a story to tell,
The boy over by the window tried and failed to end his living hell,
And the girl curled up on the couch sought escape in Ana’s arms,
Neither got what they wanted, they just set off their parents alarms,
And now they suffer, caged up in these cold unfeeling white walls.

I’m treated like I’m insane, left to rot inside this anesthetic jail,
Every session with the doctor I inhale and I exhale,
And I lie to his face, hoping to get out of this hellhole faster,
To make it more believable I fake a little laughter,
Anything to fool them into thinking I’m better.

Ghosts walk these halls, and every one has a story of their own,
The boy with the needle bites on his arms and his wrists sewn,
Was looking for the same thing as the girl in the loose hospital garments,
A quick high from a drug, a happy feeling from a toxic substance,
But now they suffer, caged up in these cold unfeeling white walls.

I’m the one in the corner with their arms thickly dressed,
I was sent here because I hurt myself and am clinically depressed,
But I don’t feel as broken as they make me feel when I bleed my veins dry,
I won’t lie about it, I don’t want to die, I just want to see my veins cry,
They don’t believe me, they all think I want to die, but I only do it to feel alive.

Ghosts walk these halls, and every one has a story to pass on,
When you’re stuck here, you don’t want to act withdrawn,
If you want to get your freedom back, if you want to escape here,
Then you better make sure your lies are sincere.

Another brilliant piece...You have a way of describing things that make it seem like you have lived them... Hopefully, you haven't lived through everything that you've described in the 4 poems that I just read :)) Nice job, though! -Roshni.
