Breaking Free Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Breaking Free

They whispered in my ear told me of a world so right.
They painted me a picture that would look so nice
They said some charming things but I didn't like
The freedom taken away from those
Who chose to fight
Oh yeah, they tried to get me
Oh yeah, they tried to get me
And then that's when it hit me
But then that's when it hit me
They didn't like me
And they've tried to convince me to change.
They whispered in my ear told me of a world so right
The one that would be seen from their world of view
They've see beauty, I've seen horror
Ain't no way I want to move forward
If they had got me, what would they do?
Oh yeah, they tried to get me
Oh yeah, they tried to get me
And then that's when it hit me
But then that's when it hit me
They didn't like me
And they've tried to convince me to change.
I wasn't going to
I love the me who
Defied this reality
Breaking lose,
Breaking free
